General Information

 

Goals:

 

This training addresses test automation on mobile devices, using Appium, an open-source tool for creating test automation in Android and iOS environments, and integrating it into a continuous testing toolchain:

  • Understand Appium and the chain of tools enabling its use
  • Know how to install Appium and related tools
  • Be able to automate tests on mobile applications
  • Set up a continuous testing platform

  • Fundamental knowledge of Java and mobile/functional testing

  • Introduction to testing and test automation
  • The different test automation tools

2. Introduction to Appuim & Mobile Test Automation

  • Mobile test automation, Selenium 3.0 and APIs (iOS and Android)
  • Running Scripts Using Emulation Software and on Devices

  • Different API levels and Appium concepts

3. Appium Installation Prerequisites

  • Installation and configuration of JDK
  • Installation and configuration of Maven
  • Installation and configuration of Android tools
  • Configuration of the environment variables required for Appium
  • Verification of the environment and prerequisites

4. Basic Appium Installation on Windows

  • Configuring the SDK Manager
  • Downloading and setting up the Android API and Appium GUI
  • Understanding appPath, appPackage, and appActivity

5. Appium Server on Windows

  • Starting and stopping the Appium server
  • Loading Appium dependencies with Maven
  • Stop commands and nodes

6. The “UI Automator Viewer” Interface

  • Using UI Automator Viewer through the SDK
  • Locator strategies and tags

7. Appium Inspector

  • Overview of Appium Inspector
  • Creating and reviewing recordings with Appium Inspector
  • Locating elements using the tool
  • What happens to active sessions?

8. The Object Repository

  • Overview of the Object Repository
  • Using it as a development infrastructure
  • Maintenance tasks and development approaches 

9. Advanced Features

  • Execution with ANT, Maven, and Jenkins
  • Object, technical, and element locators
  • Locating nested and multiple elements
  • Using the functions of the UI Automator class

10. Testing Android NDK, Hybrid, and Web Applications

  • Types of tests for native applications
  • Touch actions and events: gesture control
  • Web testing: automation in the Chrome browser
  • Hybrid testing: automating SMS sending on mobile devices

11. Test Infrastructure for Unit Testing

  • Introduction to unit testing
  • Introduction to TestNG
  • Differences between JUnit and TestNG
